Who are we?
Ichtus is a student group for students and sympathisers in the larger student cities. In 1972 Ichtus started with a small group of Leuven students and has since grown into several associations across Flanders and Brussels. For decades Ichtus Leuven has been the Christian student society in Leuven — for both university college and university students — with a Protestant Evangelical character.
The name ‘Ichtus’ comes from the Greek word ἰχθύς (fish). At the same time it is an acronym for 'Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour' and so points to our foundation (-> Jesus).
The aim of Ichtus is to live and proclaim the gospel holistically among students. The heart of the gospel (= the good news found in the Bible) is to love God and your neighbour. Ichtus Leuven wants to motivate students, together as an association and as individuals, to take this call seriously in every aspect of life.
We offer a place where university and university college students meet one another. We read the Bible together, pray and make room for honest questions about faith, study and society. We want to learn from God and from one another, so that we can take an active place in society as grounded and thoughtful young adults.
A different evening every Wednesday.
Small groups, shared evenings and WILDs alternate, making room for both depth and relaxation.

- The heart of Ichtus LeuvenYou spend a whole year with the same group of students. Every other week you eat together at someone’s student room, and afterwards you talk about the Bible and what it has to say to us. The Bible studies follow a study booklet provided by Ichtus Vlaanderen.
- Shared evening
- Going deeper with the whole groupEvery month we come together as a whole group to go deeper during a shared evening (a GA). Beforehand we enjoy a meal together. During the GA we make room for prayer and worship, and we explore the annual theme with a speaker, debate or workshop. Afterwards you will often find us at a pub for good conversations!
- WILD
- Doing something fun togetherOn a WILD evening we do something relaxed with the whole group. We always start by eating together and then head off for a fun activity. Think bowling, ice skating or the Ichtus Leuven Quiz!
What we believe.
We share the basis of faith of IFES International (opens in a new window). We believe in:
- The unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.
- The sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgement.
- The divine inspiration and entire trustworthiness of Holy Scripture, as originally given, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
- The universal sinfulness and guilt of all people since the fall, rendering them subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.
- Redemption from the guilt, penalty, dominion and pollution of sin solely through the sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God.
- The bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead and his ascension to the right hand of God the Father.
- The presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the work of regeneration.
- The justification of sinners by the grace of God through faith alone.
- The indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit in the believer.
- The one holy universal Church, which is the Body of Christ and to which all true believers belong.
- The personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ichtus Leuven is a local student community within Ichtus Vlaanderen and the worldwide IFES movement.
